Reasons I believe this may be true:
- 1. I have boxes of things that have been moved, and moved again, without being unpacked.
- 2. Going through these boxes, in addition to clothes I haven't worn for years and numerous greeting cards (it just doesn't seem appropriate to throw those out, does it?), I have mail and receipts that are years old, and things that are pretty much trash (however I kept, because they might have a potential use someday).
- 3. Despite my knowing it's ridiculous to hold on to these things for a potential use, I had a whole box for these things I created in the moving process; I labeled it my head as,"Things that look like trash, but could be reused/recycled for preschool"(I guess I should mention, I work at a preschool). **For those who are curious, the box included: styrofoam pieces, an empty ribbon roll, an empty tennis ball can, and a tiny card with Thomas the Train on it.
- 4. I believe my dad's a hoarder (these things have a genetic component, right?), evidenced by his recent move of an insane amount of boxes (many of which were filled with items living in those boxes for possibly the past decade) and a jar of pickles with an expiration date of 2003.
- 5. On the flip side, my mom is a compulsive thrower-outer/de-clutterer. This obviously had to traumatize me at some point in my childhood. My inner child is surely compensating, as I know something important or sentimental was given away or thrown out, and I still haven't fully recovered.
So, am I hoarder? Possibly.
Do I have issues? Definitely. I blame my parents.
Your preschool box sounds totally awesome to me. It's a great start. You definitely need to add to it as you go! Is this not the kind of encouragement you were looking for? :)
